Hey guys -

I swapped the dates for Down-a-Darla again! Trying to work around travel plans So, no Buffy next week (3/13/10) but Down-a-Darla on 3/20/10.

Thanks!

Watcher Council Association :: RE: February 2010 Official Rankings and Topics

Author: dgjedi
Posted: Sun Feb 28, 2010 11:43 am (GMT -4)
Topic Replies: 1

Thanks to all the judges this month for getting their results into me. So far, I have received all the results for tournaments I know were held in February. Therefore, I will be posting the March rankings tomorrow. If any other results are out there, you can still get them in today, or they will be included in April's rankings.

I'm getting a few questions about how rankings are calculated It's been tweaked a few times over the past five years, but is still basically the same formula.

A players rating equals 1000 plus the total number of tournament points accumulated over the players most recent 100 games played over the past two years.

For convention and special tournaments each game played counts as two games for rating purposes. Tournament points are also doubled.

Reults fall "off" a players rating for the following:
1. The games were played more than two years ago.
2. Games played in the past two years exceed 100, so the oldest tournament played is removed.
3. More than 50% of a players results are more than a year old, so the oldest tournament results are removed until a player has at least 50% of their results from the past 12 months.
4. A player has not played in a tournament for more than 2 months reducing the number of games eligible for rating by 5. (i.e. rating is calculated based on recent 95 games instead of 100). For every subsequent month afterwards the number of eligible games is reduced by another 5.

The rating system was defined to reward frequent Buffy CCG play as much as winning play. It was also defined to make it easy to calculate.

Since the ratings were created, the only two major changes were for #2 above where the maximum number of games was reduced from 150 to 100 to reflect the reduced availability of tournaments. #4 was added around the same time so that a player could not have an exceptional event like WOB and then "sit" in their rating position for a full year without defending that position. Rules #1 and #3 have not changed since the beginning.

I think the system works very well and if I was going to propose any change, it would be to add a bonus point or 2 for defeating a quality opponent. (i.e. 1 point for defeating someone ranked in the top 10 and another point for defeating someone ranked in the top 5.)

Buffy Fan Fiction :: RE: Beltsville Chronicles: Season 2

It's been a while since this has been updated. There's been a little "out with the old, in with the new" since then.

OUT: slayer PCs, werewolf PCs
IN: warlock PCs, skeptic pyrokinetic PCs, vampire PCs who drink demon blood instead of human blood

Our NPC Watcher Ian gets a lecture from Dan on the irresponsible use of magic. He doesn't quite realize that this is about him, until Dan flat out says so. Ian is struck silent for the first time in the campaign.

Xachary meets with his new ferret army: White, Brownie, and Frisky (I was rooting for Podo and Kodo). They agree to help stop the bad coven (by taking shinies from sleeping witches).

Reynard is not keen with the idea of leaving his sister Marie with Tyler, so he instead chooses to send Dan over to keep her safe. Marie is very happy with this since Dan is MUCH better looking than Tyler and has been known to go skyclad.

Marie calls Ian's bookstore and invites Jacen (our new and odd vampire) over to Havingherst House since she's technically still a resident.

Reynard and Tyler investigate Tyler's house. A guy from GoodKnight is there, and Tyler is very jumpy. They open up the hidden closet and while Tyler sees nothing, Reynard sees a magical portal.

Dan and Marie talk about the Havingherst House coven, their defenses, how they can deal with them, and some magical research (taking advantage of Reynard's library). There are 5-6 unwilling members that are under the influence of a Tabula Rasa spell, so saving them is a priority. There are also some nasty little creations that may be running around, so the ferret army will need some backup.

Jacen seems to be attracting demons, as some hellhounds attack the bookstore. He takes the opportunity to fill up on some much-needed demon blood. He asks about eating Tyler and Ian tells him that is NOT acceptable.

And then we ended, deciding to make the assault on Havingherst House the next session!

Good idea and thanks for the input, Krista!

We're also batting around a brand new format idea called "Betrayal" -- details will be coming soon, but suffice it to say if you've dreamed of Angelus and Buffy fighting side by side on the same team, or being able to run Quentin in your Collin deck? You'll enjoy it

How about an Underdog format? It should have an "Iowa" edit that Gwendolyn Post is no longer an underdog We're starting to use this in place of Hero/Villain of the Week since there are some clearly superior characters that dominate H/V of the Week.

Hi Buffy friends!

We know that the dates for this year's Weekend o' Buffy will be June 3-6, 2010 -- we hope you can make it to Iowa! We're working on formats and details right now, so I'm putting this out there to ask for suggestions, requests, recommendations, and bribery ( ) regarding formats.

We know that we'll have a sealed deck tournament and one "Grand Patrol" (regular Buffy extended type A) -- but we've got three more tourneys to choose and we're taking suggestions into consideration!

Please feel free to post here or to send me a PM or e-mail with ideas. We plan to make a full schedule announcement in March.

Thanks!

Yes! We know the dates will be June 3-6, 2010 with the same basic schedule that we've used the past two years:

Thursday = open play/reception @ 7 p.m.
Friday = 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. events
Saturday = 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. events
Sunday = mini-golf

Just working out which events we're hosting and the food stuffs. You can count on sealed deck for one event, one "regular" Buffy (ext. type A) and three other tourneys yet to be decided on.

I'll post a good, detailed schedule by March for everyone to start building!

Hey Buffyers!

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I moved the Down-A-Darla tourney to March so that one of our Minnesota Buffy friends can visit and play along The Feb. 27 tourney has been cancelled, and we scrapped Highlander until a later date, too.

Thanks!
Caroline

I have just finished watching the final episode (season 2) and I've spent the last couple of weeks completely overhauling these cards, hopefully I'll have them posted this weekend.
